they call it a massacre

it was the second dual meet i have joined after being a member of the ADB badminton club. Dual meets are supposed to be "friendly" games between two companies as there are no prices at stake, except for points earned, and i guess bragging rights. But the matches are as fierce as those played at the world IBF championship (ok fine, i am just exaggerating! ;0)

the first one was the ADB-IBM dual meet held sometime last year at the the Olympics Badminton. coming in as a new member of the club, i was nervous, primarily because this the closest thing i ever got to a "tournament", and second, of course, i ought to prove something to the members of the club that i was "worthy" to join the meet.

i played at the ladies doubles twice and won 3 out of possible 4 sets in two matches. this is the first time i broke my string (at naputol sya, di pa ako naglalaro, warm up pa lang... ganda). no, no, no, it's not because i smashed too hard... luma na tlga yung string ng raketa ko ;0)

anyhow, the IBM was really short of players. their men's doubles played against our mixed doubles ( mga amasona tlga mga babae ng ADB! parang lalaki na rin) because they don't have female players to field anymore.

after 3 hours of play, ADB surfaced as the winner. here were the scores (hope my memory still serves me right)

MEN'S DOUBLES
ADB-28
IBM - 8

LADIES DOUBLES
ADB- 24
IBM-6

MIXED DOUBLES
ADB - 26
IBM- 10

I have a friend who works at IBM who commented that we were "merciless" . To use his words, "Nilampaso niyo naman kami." and that was my first meet.

Last Saturday, it was the Shell-ADB Meet at the Zone in Makati. I arrived their at around 2:00PM. Siyempre ako lang ang hindi naka ADB Badminton shirt (ang galing ko tlga!) Some of the games started already and my partners were nervous coz they thought that i won't be able to make it. my co-members said that we were leading. the games were played using the rally point system (if a pair commits an error, the other pair gets the score, regardless who served) race to 21.

and after all the games were played, ADB emerged as the winner. it was fun as the players gave it their best, not to mention the fact that ADB people were really roudy and loud in cheering. (kasama na ang walang kamatayang asaran!)

the final scores were ADB - 72 SHELL - 19. and this time, hindi lang lampaso. The Shell team called it a massacre. ;0)

Congrats ADB Team!
